Former Damien of La Verne football coach Greg Gano reportedly is close to being hired as Tustin’s head coach.
Tustin athletic director Myron Miller, who resigned as the Tillers’ football coach after the 2012 season, his 18th, said the next Tillers coach has been selected, but the Tustin Unified School District must approve the selection next week before an announcement can be made.
“The guy we’ll get will be on campus as a teacher in the second semester,” Miller said. “But this has to go through the district, first.”
Gano resigned as Damien’s coach at the end conclusion of the 2012 season, his fourth there. Gano compiled a 20-22 record and led the team to two playoff appearances. He previously coached at Los Altos, where Gano’s teams won four CIF-SS championships.
