Santa Margarita All-County running back Ryan Wolpin (5-9, 192) has committed to FCS Northern Colorado of the Big Sky Conference, the senior said in an e-mail Tuesday night.

Wolpin made an official recruiting trip to Northern Colorado over the weekend. He also visited South Dakota State earlier in the recruiting season.

“It felt like the right fit for me,” Wolpin wrote in an e-mail of Northern Colorado, “it is closer to home, great location, loved the coaching staff … the campus was impressive and great opportunity to make an impact right away.”

Wolpin landed a full scholarship from Northern Colorado, which finished 4-4 in the Big Sky this past season.

He rushed for 1,368 yards on 203 carries for Santa Margarita for 2012. He should help Northern Colorado’s ground attack.
