Boys soccer: Former Century standout headed to MLS

Jose Gomez, a former standout soccer player at Century, was chosen in the second round (the 38th pick overall) by Toronto in the MLS Supplemental draft on Tuesday.

Gomez, the reigning 2012 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year,  had a celebrated career while at Crieghton University. He recently was the runner up for the MAC Herman Trophy, which is given to the Top D 1 player annually.

Gomez, a senior co-captain, helped guide the Blue Jays into the College Cup in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history. In the weeks that followed, he  earned Soccer America MVP First Team honors as a midfielder and was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of Ameria All-America First Team.
