Mater Dei’s Chris Segesman has been selected the Southern Section boys water polo coach of the year by the California Coaches Association.
The 2004 U.S. Olympic defender guided the Monarchs to their second consecutive 31-0 season in the fall, including the CIF-SS Division 1 title.
Mater Dei’s current run includes five consecutive CIF-Southern Section crowns, including the past three in Division 1, and 79 consecutive victories.
Segesman took over Mater Dei’s program starting with the 2005 season.
The Monarchs had not won a playoff game prior to his arrival but are 207-41 under the former Long Beach State player.
Segesman is eligible for a state coaching award from the California Coaches Association.
The Southern Section’s other finalists for boys water polo coaching were Dustin Litvak of Agoura and Kevin Rosa of M.L. King of Riverside.
