The final four of the 2012 Mater Dei Premier Invitational has been set.
In one semifinal match, Villa Park will take on No. 10 Los Alamitos. The Spartans, who tied Beckman 1-1 in the finale of pool play on Friday, went 2-0-1 in the Group C bracket with wins over Mater Dei (2-0) and Mission Viejo (1-0).
The Griffins defeated Bishop Amat 3-1 in the Group D pool play finale. The Griffins, which dropped their opening match to Dana Hills 1-0, rebounded with a 1-0 win over Foothill before beating the Lancers.
This match will pit coaches that are very familiar with each other. Villa Park head coach Brent Whitfield served as an assistant to current Griffins coach Steve Soler from 2007-2010, helping lead Los Alamitos to the 2009 CIF-SS Division 1 title match.
The other semifinal will be a battle of the Wolverines, as No. 1 Aliso Niguel will tangle with Harvard-Westlake in a match pitting the two teams that recorded the most points in pool play.
Aliso Niguel, also ranked No. 1 in CIF-SS Division 1, has yet to allow a goal in three pool play matches during the tournament, defeating Tesoro 1-0, Long Beach Wilson 1-0, and Arcadia 2-0 in Group B action.
Harvard-Westlake, tied for 10th in the latest CIF-SS Division 1 rankings, defeated Canyon 2-0, tied Cathedral Catholic 2-2, and blanked San Clemente 4-0 to advance out of Group A.
Both semifinal matches will take place at Mater Dei High at 10 a.m.
The winners will meet at 5 p.m. in the tournament title match.
