El Dorado football coach Shawn Racobs, who guided the Golden Hawks to the playoffs three times in four seasons, has resigned.
Racobs said it was a tough decision to resign but cited the lack of on-campus assistant coaches as the main reason for his decision.
Racobs said El Dorado has relied on all walk-on coaches the past two seasons. “That just wasn’t acceptable to me,” he said.
El Dorado athletic director Steve Gullotti said declining enrollment, the emergence of Yorba Linda, the poor economy and tougher regulations for teachers have made it difficult to hire on-campus coaches.
The football opening at El Dorado is posted on www.edjoin.org without a teaching position, Gullotti said.
The Golden Hawks went 18-25-1 under Racobs, who replaced Jeff Bailey after Bailey took over at Yorba Linda.
The Century League will have at least three new coaches in 2013. Esperanza has an opening and Canyon has hired former Orange Lutheran coach Jim Kunau.
Racobs remains a physical education teacher in the district.
