
Defender Alexandrea Paxton scored on the power-play with 21 seconds left to rally Sunny Hills’ girls water polo team past rival Troy, 11-10, in the third-place match at the Ayala tournament Saturday.
Paxton’s strike capped the Lancers’ five-goal fourth period that helped them rally from an 8-6 deficit going to the final quarter.
Paxton finished with a team-high four goals for Sunny Hills (15-2), whose third-place finish compliments two tournament titles.
The Lancers’ Cecilya Lundy and Kate Vera added three goals apiece.
Troy (6-6) entered the match ranked third in Division 4, one spot ahead of Sunny Hills.
Upland defeated Ayala, 12-7, in a Division 3 duel in the championship.
In a nonleague match:
No. 5 Los Alamitos 9, Santa Barbara 7: Sophomore Sarah Siepker scored three goals and Nikki Quinn made nine saves to lead the visiting Griffins (7-1) past the third-ranked team in Division 1. The Griffins are ranked fifth in Division 1 and the county.
