
On the first big day of nonleague and tournament action this season, here is a quick look at some of Tuesday’s highlights.
Nonleague
No. 5 Edison 2, Lakewood 0: Sydney Stout and Tatiana Moreno each scored goals, as the Chargers (1-0) opened the season with a win over the Lancers at Edison High.
No. 9 Orange Lutheran 1, El Modena 0: A second half goal from Casey Sullivan was the difference, as the Lancers (1-0) opened the season with a win over the Vanguards (0-1) at Orange Lutheran High.
No. 10 Los Alamitos 3, Ayala 0: Raya Young scored twice to lead the Griffins (1-0) past the Bulldogs at Laurel School. Hannah Goldsmith also added a goal for Los Alamitos.
Villa Park 2, Sonora 0: Bethany Sutherland had a goal and an assist, as the Spartans (1-0) opened the season with home victory over the Raiders (0-1).
Rosary 8, St. Paul 0: Kelly Loughran recorded a hat trick to lead the Royals (1-0) over the Swordsmen at Fullerton College. Stacey Juarez had two goals and two assists, while Noelle Nisco also added two goals for Rosary.
Valencia 2, El Dorado 0: Kiersten Gamba scored both goals in the Tigers (1-0) season-opening win over the Golden Hawks (1-1) at Valencia High.
Northwood 7, JSerra 0: Gabriela Mackey and Allison Rivas each tallied two goals, as the visiting Timberwolves (1-0) overwhelmed the Lions (0-1).
Crean Lutheran 2, Connelly 0: First half goals from Clarissa Burnell and Maddie Beavers propelled the host Saints (1-0) over the Koalas (0-1).
Sage Hill 1, Ocean View 0: The host Lightning (2-0) posted a win over the Seahawks (0-1) behind a second half goal by Tiffany Taylor.
Newport Harbor 2, Laguna Hills 1: Behind goals from Toni Holland and Gema Sanchez, the Sailors (1-0) opened the season with a road win against the Hawks (0-1).
Westminster 2, Savanna 0: Two goals from Yazmin Gomenz was the difference in the Lions (1-0) win over the Rebels (0-2) at Westminster High.
Woodbridge 2, El Toro 0: Despite five saves from goalie Megan Boyd, the Chargers (0-1) dropped their season opener to the Warriors (1-0) at El Toro High.
Segerstrom 5, Garden Grove 1: Vivian Vega scored four goals in the Jaguars win over the Argonauts (0-1) at Segerstrom High.
Bolsa Grande 2, Brethren Christian 1: Goals from Yelena Alvarado and Betty Tamyo helped the lead the host Matadors (1-0) past the Warriors (0-1).
Estancia 0, Irvine 0: Eagles goalie Gianna Guyot recorded six saves, as Estancia (0-0-1) and Irvine (1-0-1) played to scoreless tie at Irvine High. Juliette Bernard and Erica Dory combined for five saves for the Vaqueros.
At the Artesia Tournament:
Troy 2, Bishop Amat 0: Second half goals from Lindsey Dias and Aliyah Jones lifted the Warriors (2-0) over the Lancers. Katelyn Carter had four saves for Troy.
Troy 5, Gahr 0: Caitlin Haugen scored two goals and added two assists, as the Warriors (3-0) posted their second win of the day, beating the Gladiators. Kristen Nolan added a goal and an assist for Troy who scored four goals in the second half.
