By now, you know the routine …
Here are my picks for stars of the week.
Offensive
Meki Tafuna, Villa Park
Tafuna helped Villa Park to the 35-34 victory over Tustin, powering his way to 171 yards on 33 carries and four touchdowns in the victory.
Defensive
I don’t have the individual stats yet, but might as well give this award to Mater Dei defensive unit. The Monarchs packed its defense for the roadie to Ventura, holding St. Bonaventure to 64 yards rushing and 45 passing, recording five sacks and intercepting two passes in the 21-0 victory.
Special Teams
Grif Amies, Corona del Mar
Amies booted a pair of fields (47 and 40 yards) to give him 21 fields goals this season. The state and national record is 22, set by Chris Sailer in 1994. Amies will get his chance to set a new record next week in the CIF-SS Southern Division final.
Calhoun’s final take on the week
CIF-SS top receiving performers
