CIF-SS FOOTBALL SEMIFINALS:
SOUTHWEST DIVISION
Tustin (12-0) vs. Villa Park (11-1)
Where, when: Tustin High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Tustin and Villa Park are meeting in the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Tillers won both prior meetings — in the Southwest semifinals in 2010, and the second round in 2011. The Spartans were the division’s top seed last year.
Tustin, the division’s defending champion and this year’s No. 2 seed, has easily dispatched its first two opponents, beating El Dorado and Huntington Beach by a combined 60 points.
The Tillers run on virtually every down and lead the county in rushing with an average of nearly 400 yards per game.
The third-seeded Spartans rallied from a nine point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat Newport Harbor, 26-21. They feature a balanced offensive attack, headed by quarterback Dylan Osborne and running back Meki Tafuna.
Villa Park’s lone defeat came to top-seeded Edison.
The Spartans and Tillers have played three common opponents, with Tustin beating each by a bigger margin.
