Not today, the first day of the one-week early signing period in many sports.
That’s because most of the Monarchs top college prospects are not seniors.
There are Mater Dei seniors who will sign, but that will happen in the regular-signing period in April.
Mater Dei’s top college prospect is a junior.
Stanley Johnson, a 6-foot-7 multi-talented forward, is a junior. He can pick from any college in the nation, that’s how good he is. Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight said Johnson will make his college decision next summer.
Senior guard Jordan Strawberry has received a scholarship offer from UC Riverside and a couple of others. UCR could be a great fit for him. Strawberry will get more offers.
Senior guard Elijah Brown, son of the former Lakers coach, has an offer from St. Mary’s and others. Senior guard James McGee has an offer from Southern Utah, and senior Chris Nealey might go to Loyola Marymount.
And there are Mater Dei freshmen who will get growing recruiting interest in coming years.
