Santa Margarita water polo players Emily Loughlin and Jackie Villarreal have signed with four-year schools, Eagles girls coach Kevin Ricks said in an e-mail Wednesday.
Loughlin, a rising center, signed with Cal while Villarreal signed with San Diego State. Loughlin will play for the U.S. team at the upcoming FINA world youth championships in Australia.
Santa Margarita’s Morgan Martinez has committed to UC Irvine, Ricks added.
“This was a great morning for girls water polo at SMCHS and I am very proud of Morgan, Jackie and Emily for their hard work, dedication and commitment to our program and the greater sport of water polo,” Ricks said in an e-mail. ” They embody what it is to be a student-athlete and are a great example to our younger student-athletes.”
Here’s what Loughlin said on twitter about her decision:
“I felt at home at CAL. I fell in love with the campus, academics, coaches, and most of all the team,” Loughlin wrote.
