Northwest Division playoffs: Whittier Christian vs. Nordhoff

CIF-SS FOOTBALL PLAYOFS: NORTHWEST DIVISION

Second round

WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (8-3) vs. NORDHOFF (10-1)

Where, when: Nordhoff HS, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: The Rangers are the second seed in the division. They finished second in the Tri-Valley League to Bishop Diego of Santa Barbara, who is the top seed in the division. Nordhoff opened the playoffs with a 44-0 victory over Sierra Vista of Baldwin Park.

Nordhoff hasn’t allowed a point in their its two games, outscoring opponents by a combined score of 92-0. Tayler Livingston is the leading rusher (890 yards) with 15 touchdowns. Quarterback Tanner Workman has completed 121 of 193 passes (62.7 percent) for 1,952 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

The Heralds defeated Torrance 38-28 in the first round. Quarterback Ryan Esslinger completed 15 of 25 passes for 215 yards and one touchdown. He also led the ground attack with 152 yards and a rushing.

David Fischer scored three rushing touchdowns and gained 114 yards.

Whittier Christian has won its last five games, scoring an average of 29.8 points a game.
