Boys water polo: Laguna Beach shows its championship spirit

November 10th, 2012, 4:42 pm · · posted by

Riley Thomas wiped the blood under his nose away and jumped back in the pool.

Duncan Lynde thrust his arms in the air after scoring the go-ahead score.

And Maxx McCarter powered high out of the water to prevent a breakaway goal.

Laguna Beach’s boys water polo team let its championship desire be seen Saturday afternoon in the final minute at Murrieta Valley.

Lynde scored the go-ahead goal off a foul outside 5 meters with 55 seconds left and McCarter stopped a quick counterattack with a point-blank save with 21 seconds left as the Breakers posted a 10-8 victory in a Division 2 quarterfinal in front of a boisterous crowd in Murrieta.

Laguna Beach plays Santa Barbara, a 12-6 winner against Royal, in the semifinals Wednesday.

The Breakers are led by seniors, pictured from left, Caleb Scott, Maxx McCarter, Duncan Lynde, Riley Thomas and Camron Hauer.
