
First, Tesoro won a three-way coin flip with San Clemente and Trabuco Hills to be the South Coast League’s No. 3 team (behind 1. Mission Viejo and 2. El Toro).
Bishop Amat got the first of the Pac-5 Divsion’s two at-large berths. That made it Crespi (8-2 record) vs. Tesoro (7-3) for the other at-large berth.
The points system that determines at-large teams gave three points to Tesoro — two for strength of schedule, one for strength of league. Crespi got one point for having the superior record.
The CIF-Southern Section football coaches advisory committee ranked Pac-5 leagues in this order: 1. Trinity; 2. South Coast; 3. Marmonte; 4. Serra; 5. Moore.
