Football: OCVarsity Stars of the Week

November 3rd, 2012, 9:57 am · · posted by

Each week I will select an offensive, defensive and special teams star of the week. This is my pick.

No one was consulted in this selection, although, I considered asking Kobe Bryant for help, but he told me to shut up and then he started talking about something called the Princeton Offense … what is that?

The envelope please:

Offensive

Steven Anderson, Westminster

Steven Anderson owned the night and the game Friday against Westminster. Anderson completed nine of 15 passes for 258 yards and six touchdowns (23, 14, 11, 72, 68 and 18 yards). He also rushed for 76 yards and two touchdowns. That’s eight touchdowns! in the 56-30 victory over Segerstrom.

Defensive

Mission Viejo – Any team that can do what the Diablos did to El Toro deserves some sort of recognition. The Diablos intercepted El Toro’s Conner Manning 6 times … yes, you read that right… 6 interceptions. Hunter Remington intercepted three passes and Sean Modster, Zack Holland and Steven Macke had the others. The Diablos turned four of those interceptions into 28 points. Mission Viejo also recorded three sacks, in the 49-7 victory. El Toro entered the game averaging 47 points a game.

Honorable Mention

Ben Sukut, Capistrano Valley Christian – Take a look at what Sukut did on defense Thursday. The freshman intercepted four passesĀ  … and he returned them all for touchdowns! In CVC’s 55-14 victory over Southlands Christian. Wow!

Special Teams

Michael Schultz, Newport Harbor

Schultz, a sophomore kicker, made a 37-yard field goal in overtime Thursday to lift the Sailors to the 31-28 victory over Los Alamitos. After everything was settled Friday night, that kick led the Sailors to a second place finish in the Sunset League.
