Fountain Valley standout offensive lineman J.D. Hinnant (6-5, 260), who was injured in a car accident on Friday before the Barons’ season-finale against Marina, is in stable condition in an intensive care unit in Orange, his father, Blake, said in a text late Saturday.
“He is conscious but sleeping a lot,” Blake wrote. “Transfer has been submitted to get him out of the ICU.”
Hinnant suffered a fractured pelvis and tailbone and a small head contusion, his father said.
“Thankfully no spinal, neck or internal injuries,” Blake wrote. “Hoping to avoid surgery.”
Hinnant is one of Orange County’s top recruits for the class of 2013. He received offers from most of the Pac-12 before narrowing his picks to Cal, Oregon, Duke and Nebraska.
