‘Athletically motivated’ lingo stays in transfer rules

October 30th, 2012, 11:56 am · · posted by

At Monday’ CIF State Federated Council meeting, where all state-wide CIF rules are adopted or amended, the Trinity League proposal that would delete “athletically motivated” language from transfer rules did not pass. Thus, a transfer that is determined to be athletically motivated in whole or in part could cause a student-athlete’s eligibility to be denied at his or her new school.

The CIF-Southern Section has lessened its emphasis on  that athletically motivated angle in recent months — as it should. Every transfer could be looked upon to be athletically motivated, even a little bit. Let the kids play!

Also, a proposal to change the structure of the CIF State Championship Bowl Games did not pass, so the selection process and number of teams selected will be unchanged. The Regionals Round of the state football playoffs is in place this year and next year as a two-year pilot program.
