The top seven is easy. Selecting teams 8-10 was difficult.
Here is how I voted on the Orange County top 10 this morning. (People who disagree are asked to provide their top 10s.)
1. Mission Viejo (9-0 overall, 3-0 league)
2. Mater Dei (7-2, 3-1 … I think Mater Dei would beat El Toro; but I can see reasons for voting ET at No. 2)
3. El Toro (9-0, 3-0)
4. Santa Margarita (8-1, 3-1 … offense recovering better lately from loss of QB Stanton)
5. Edison (8-1, 4-0 … only loss was to Mater Dei)
6. Orange Lutheran (6-3, 1-3 … losses all in league to Bosco, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita)
7. Tustin (9-0, 5-0 … in deciding OLu vs. Tustin in the rankings, remembering that last year a last-place OLu team beat Southwest Division champ Tustin by 39 points — so, in other words, a last-place Trinity League team could be good enough to win the Southwest Division)
8. Villa Park (8-1, 5-0 … only loss to Edison, by 20 points)
9. San Clemente (5-4, 1-2 … just beat Tesoro)
10. Tesoro (6-3, 1-3 … loss to San Clemente, yes, but still a good team with some quality victories on the sheet)
Considered Servite, which would be 7-2 with other teams’ schedules. But I don’t think Servite would beat Tesoro this week, which is something San Clemente just did … Considered Foothill (7-2, 4-1) … but Servite would be 8-2 with Foothill’s schedule. Took glances at Newport Harbor and Huntington Beach, too.
Compare Steve Fryer’s vote to this week’s O.C. Top 10 and see his Teams 11-25.
