The CIF-Southern Section Council, the section’s rules-making rules-changing body, voted this morning to support a CIF State proposal that would eliminate the “athletically motivated” language from rules regarding transfers.
The Southern Section is one of 10 sections in the state that will meet later to vote on this proposal. It might be that a majority of the state’s other sections will vote against the proposal.
Currently, a student-athlete who transfers could have his athletic eligibility denied at his or her new school if the transfer appears to be athletically motivated.
The state proposal was created by the Trinity League. Trinity League schools are JSerra, Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, Servite, St. John Bosco and Santa Margarita.
The section council, made up of representatives of CIF-SS leagues, voted to support the measure, 45-27.
