
The Laguna Hills girls and boys cross country teams competed Saturday at the 2012 Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York.
The girls’ team finished ninth in the East States race of the invitational.
Senior Alana Jones led the Hawks in the 2.5 mile race, finishing 23rd overall in a time of 15:21.
Sophomores Melissa Bartello (15:44) and Brianna Bartello (15:48), along with junior Yamileth Muniz (15:57) all finished in the top 60 for Laguna Hills, which scored 237 points.
Tatnall High of Wilmington, Delaware won the team competition with 87 points. They were led by senior Reagan Anderson, who won the race in a time of 14:21.
On the boys’ side, the Haws placed 20th in the East States race. Seniors Collin Wasley (13:21), Kyle Koch (13:29), and Eric Koch (13:39) each finished in the top 100 for Laguna Hills (475 points).
Christian Brothers of New Jersey (94 points) won the team title in the race with five scoring runners scoring amongst the top 35.
Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict Prep in Newark, New Jersey was the individual winner in a time of 11:58.
