All of the nonleague madness is finally out of the way.

Next week, we separate the kids from the men as league play begins everywhere. The Century and Empire Leagues have been in league play since August, or so it seems.

There were eye-catching games last night, let’s take a look.

Servite is back

Or is it? Does one victory mean that the Friars are back? After being held scoreless in their last two games, Servite put it on St. Paul, dropping 38.

Andrew Moore led the ground attack with 151 yards. Salesi Etiaki returned from injury. Sophomore QB Travis Waller subbed in for Neil Pauu.

Was this the start of the Servite resurgence? We will know a lot in the next couple of weeks. Santa Margarita is next, then Orange Lutheran.

Trinity League hysteria

The Trinity League gets underway next week. It will be a fight. My concerns: Will Santa Margarita be able to hold off the opposition without Johnny Stanton? Can Orange Lutheran win by running the option? Now, you know the Lancers had the week off last week, so I expect to see some wrinkles in the offense.

Is this the year JSerra gets a second victory? The Lions are off to a 5-0 start, closing nonleague with 31-21 victory over Trabuco Hills.

You can spend the next month in the Trinity League if you wanted.

But if you did, you might miss out on the South Coast League

South Coast League action gets underway next week, except for Mission Viejo will have a bye week. The Diablos have been on a search and destroy mission. After scoring “only” 35 points in each of the first two games, Mission Viejo has scored 42, 63, 84 and 52. How is anybody going to be able to slow them in league?

Circle the date: Oct. 19 – Mission Viejo at Tesoro. Circle it twice.

The race for 2nd

I’m going out on a limb here … but I Tustin will win the Empire League title. Now, the mad scramble for second will be very interesting. You would think that Yorba Linda is the favorite to take second,  but keep an eye on Valencia. The Tigers are a tough group, you really need to land the KO to put them away.

Southwest Division final favorites

Edison vs. Tustin … this needs to happen. Now.

The Tillers took over the No. 1 spot in the division after Edison lost to Mater Dei. The Chargers closed out their gauntlet run through the Pac-5 with a 31-3 victory over San Clemente.

Dave White said following the MD loss that the Edison offense needed to be more consistent … and what happens? 31 points against San Clemente. The Edison defense might be the best in the county.

The Chargers still have to navigate their way through the Sunset League, but I don’t see them having any troubles.

The Tillers are scoring 40 points a night just because they can and the scary thing is, they believe that they can get better … uh-oh.

Let’s see which team emerges as No. 1 contender to these two teams.

Another loss for El Loco Arias

I urge everyone to contact Carlos “El Loco” Arias to challenge him for the upcoming OCVarsity Deathmatch contest. He suffered another loss last week. Let’s try and clean out his assortment of toys. Email him at carias @ocregister.com. We all know he’s going to pick the wrong team.
