NO. 13 TRABUCO HILLS (4-1) VS. NO. 18 JSERRA (4-0)
Where, when: Saddleback College, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: The early leader for quote of the year is the guy in JSerra shirt and cap who, after the Lions beat Buena Park, 15-14, approached yours truly on the field and said, “You picked the wrong team.”
Yes, the pick here was for Buena Park to win.
It is uncertain if that guy was a JSerra coach. But a Trinity League guy popping off after a one-point victory over a Freeway League school that is not La Habra? Get real, man.
As for this one … JSerra lost to Trabuco hills last year by 17. JSerra might be better than it was last year, but so is Trabuco Hills.
Trabuco would win the championship team of many Orange County leagues, as would JSerra, but Trabuco, like JSerra might be the last-place team in a great league.
Casey Eugenio is a fine back and kick returner for JSerra; he is averaging 107 rushing yards a game.
Trabuco has beaten good teams – Dana Hills, Newport Harbor, Huntington Beach and, last week, Fountain Valley. The Mustangs got rolled by Santa Margarita, 55-0, but Santa Margarita can do that to almost anybody.
JSerra also has defeated Huntington Beach and, last week, Dana Hills. JSerra has won some close games, always a good sign. But Trabuco Hills beat Huntington by 21, and JSerra beat the Oilers by seven.
That comparative score, and Trabuco’s somewhat superior passing game, gives the edge to the Mustangs.
Winner: Trabuco Hills
