NO. 18 HUNTINGTON BEACH (1-2) VS. NO. 15 TRABUCO HILLS (2-1)
Where, when: Trabuco Hills High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Two good teams, coming off of losses. Huntington Beach had a fourth-quarter lead against JSerra last week, but lost 20-13. Trabuco Hills was steamrolled by No. 1 Santa Margarita, 55-0. Santa Margarita can do that to a lot of teams.
Trabuco did beat a pair of decent teams, Dana Hills and Newport Harbor. Yes, No. 25 Dana Hills is 0-3 and No. 16 Newport is 0-2, but those teams are better than their records imply. Huntington Beach lost to No. 6 El Toro, 47-24, and hammered Magnolia, 62-0. (Magnolia has been outscored, 113-12, over two games.)
Huntington Beach quarterback Kai Ross had a poor outing against No. 17 JSerra, completing only 4 of 16 passes with three interceptions. He should be better than that in this game. Trabuco Hills has a good quarterback, too.
Nathan Perry has completed 60 percent of his passes for 115 yards a game, and is coming off of a tough night against Santa Margarita. Perry was 9 for 17 for 92 yards with an interception last week.
Of course, the Mustangs could not run the ball against Santa Margarita, either.
Trabuco will get the running and passing games going strong in this game.
Winner: Trabuco Hills
