Outlook: Foothill looked very good in its season-opening, 28-14 victory over No. 19 Fountain Valley, then was outscored by a touchdown in a loss to No. 10 Tustin and last week routed Beckman, 56-0.

Having seen Century League teams Foothill and Villa Park play, the opinion here is that Foothill is the superior team and the league favorite at the moment. The defense is fast and sure-tackling, and Jack Gilchrist has established himself as one of the county’s better quarterbacks.

Laguna Hills opened with a 21-12 victory over a solid Corona del Mar team, then last week beat Northwood (0-2), 24-13. Laguna Hills is good enough to win the championship of what might be the most-balanced league in county football, the Sea View League. But Foothill is one of the top five teams in the Southwest Division.
