No. 17 TRABUCO HILLS (1-0) VS. No. 13 NEWPORT HARBOR (0-0)
Where, when: Newport Harbor High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Trabuco Hills last week beat Dana Hills, the team Sea View League coaches tabbed to be the league favorite, 17-14. The Mustangs had to hang on at the end to secure the victory. They were able to compile some much-needed first downs to eat up the clock in the final minutes. That’s a good sign for Trabuco football this year.
Newport Harbor was picked by Sunset League coaches to finish fifth in the six-team league. It is not an insult to be picked as a fifth-place team in a league that good. Newport Harbor will be good enough to win the championship of several leagues, including a couple that are, like the Sunset, in the Southwest Division. The experience of having played a game gives Trabuco an advantage over Newport. This has all the makings of a close game. And Newport Harbor rarely loses a close game.
Winner: Newport Harbor
