NO. 14 VILLA PARK (1-0) VS. NO. 23 VALENCIA (1-0)
Where, when: Valencia High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Villa Park opened with a road game last week, and defeated Righetti of Santa Maria, 28-21. We expected a larger margin of victory. But Righetti is good, ranked No. 9 in the CIF-Southern Section’s Northern Division, and you never know what you are going to get from a high school football team that has to travel 188 miles for its first game.
Meki Tafuna rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns for the Spartans. Valencia was expected to be an improved team this year, and the Tigers lived up to that with a 21-16 victory over a Brea Olinda team that should be a playoff contender in the Century League. Valencia rushed for more than 200 yards. Villa Park’s defense will be better than it showed last week, and that unit should be the difference in this game that could be a close one.
Winner: Villa Park
