Thursday Night Football Madness: The Postmortem

August 23rd, 2012, 10:32 pm · · posted by

Is this El Toro QB Conner Manning when he’s not on the field or at school?

I don’t no if we can conclusively rule out that El Toro quarterback Conner Manning isn’t a cyborg sent back from the future to wreak havoc on OC Football after his performance in El Toro’s 47-24 season-0pening victory over Huntington Beach on Thursday night at Trabuco Hills High.

Manning, the county’s single season passing yardage and touchdown record holder, completed 44 of 66 passes for 454 yards and six touchdowns. The one stat that gives evidence that he might be human is the one fourth-quarter interception he threw late in the fourth quarter deep in HB territory. But that might have just been a clever ruse to throw that pesky Terminator-hunting John Connor.

Manning completed four or more passes to six different receivers as he led the Chargers no-huddle offense on a huge night. And that was just the season opener in Zero Week. I can’t wait to see what El Toro’s offense looks like when it hits the South Coast league.

“I felt so rusty, but I think our offense still played really well,” Manning told Mr. FryDay Night after the game.

THE THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL MADNESS STUDS:

Conner Manning, El Toro: See above.

Kai Ross, Huntington Beach: Ross is in his first as HB’s starting QB and he also plays safety. This kid has a ton of potential. He’s got tons of speed and is a very shifty runner. Ross and HB’s no-huddle spread offense is going to be a problem for teams down the road. He rushed for 147 yards and three TDs on 17 carries and he completed 9 of 18 passes for 106 yards and an interception. He also had an interception on defense.

Ryan Arnold, El Toro: If your team plays El Toro, get used to seeing No. 52 all over the field on defense. The 6-0, 195-pounder was pressuring Ross all night and standing up runners at the line of scrimmage. he evened recovered a fumble on a kick return.

Troy Kurtz, Canyon: The Comanches were winless last season, but they got the 2012 season off to great start with a 35-28 victory over Fullerton thanks to Kurt’s excellent performance. Kurtz rushed for 251 yards and five TDs.

Jake Brito, Cypress: Brito rushed for 137 yards and one TD on 29 carries and threw a 27-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to seal Cypress’ 31-26 victory over Centennial of Compton.

Deven Boston, Buena Park: Boston rushed for 178 yards and five TDs on 13 carries to lead Buena Park to a 74-0 victory over Cerritos.

I can’t confirm or deny that this isn’t footage of El Toro QB Conner Manning when he’s not decimating opposing defenses on the football field:
