All-County Mater Dei water polo player Mackenzie Barr has committed to seven-time NCAA champion UCLA, Monarchs coach Chris Segesman said in a text message Friday afternoon.
The senior center is expected to be one of the county’s top players this season.
“I am excited for her choice of UCLA, a perfect fit for her style,” Segesman said. “I expect her to help carry on the tradition of the UCLA program.”
Barr scored 136 goals and played strong defense last season to help Mater Dei finish as the CIF-SS Division 2 runner-up, the best finish in school history.
Barr was a second-team All-County pick and the CIF-SS Division 2 player of the year.
UCLA’s 2013 recruiting class included county standouts Rachel Fattal of Los Al, Maddy McLaren of Newport, goalie Alex Musselman of CdM and Alys Williams of Edison.
