Recent Valencia graduate Katherine Pierce, pictured left at May’s CIF-SS finals, set meet records in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100 individual medley at the Orange County Swim Conference Summer League Championships at El Toro on Tuesday.
Racing for Swim Team of Placentia, the 18-year-old lowered her own records in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 6.37 seconds and the 100 IM with a 1:01.44. Both times were set in the 15-18 age-group.
Hank Rivers, an 8-year-old with Long Beach Shore, sliced almost half-a-second off Olympian great Jason Lezak’s 1984 record in the 50-yard freestyle in the 7-8 age-group with a 29.64. Lezak, the former Irvine High standout and four-time Olympian, held the record with a 30.03.
The Ladera Ranch Liquids and Estancia High-based Splash finished first-second in the combined team scores.
