Centennial of Compton running back Shavony Drew (6-0, 209) has transferred to Fountain Valley, Barons football coach John Shipp confirmed late Thursday.

Drew enrolled at Fountain Valley during the spring and projects to start at running back and safety for the Barons.

“He’s a great talent,” Shipp said of Drew.

Centennial of Compton was an inspiring squad last season. The team played just 13 kids but reached the second round of the CIF-SS Northwest Division playoffs under former Laguna Beach coach Jimmy Nolan, now at Carson.

Fountain Valley and Shipp know how to feature a talented running back. Just a few seasons ago, Kyle Middlebrooks flourished for the Barons before heading to Arizona State.
