
SET’s 18-and-under boys water polo team — loaded with Orange County products and high school players to watch in 2012 — claimed the silver medal at the recent Junior Olympics at Stanford.
The squad based at El Toro High fell in the final to Northern California’s Lamorinda, 9-4.
Coach Justin Johnson said his team was led on offense by left-hander Joey Fuentes (El Toro, headed to UCLA) and Samer Alkateb (Laguna Beach, headed to UC Santa Barbara), on defense by goalie Erik Henrikson (Laguna Beach, headed to Johns Hopkins) and James Rude (El Toro, headed to Santa Clara) and by the two-way play of Joey Colton, a senior at El Toro.

Newport Beach placed third in the tournament, defeating Foothill Red, 8-4, in the bronze-medal match. Newport Beach fell to Lamorinda, 9-7, in the semifinals.
