Santa Margarita High will host the fourth annual Sarah DeMille 5K Memorial Run Saturday morning at the school.
The memorial race is held in memory of DeMille, a four year member of the Eagles cross country and track and field team who graduated in 2005. On February 24, 2006, DeMille, who was a freshman at Northern Arizona University, was killed in an automobile accident near the university.
Saturday’s memorial run includes a high school 5k race, a 5k memorial open race, and a one mile fun run for runners 10 and under.
Following the races will be a pancake breakfast.
Proceeds from the race will go to the Sarah DeMille Memorial Scholarship Award, which is bestowed annually to a Lady Eagle runner selected by the coaching staff.
“I believe Sarah is there watching, cheering and challenging every runner to give their best just as she always did,” Eagles cross country coach Gil Garcia said in a statement. “My hope is that all of you will join us on July 21st whether it your 4th time or your first time, I am positive you will have a great experience.”
