Boys basketball: Tesoro sophomore Pallas inquired about transfer to JSerra

July 10th, 2012, 2:11 pm · · posted by

Tesoro sophomore forward Nick Pallas is one of the top returning players in the county. But will the 6-7, 240-pound prospect return to Tesoro?

JSerra athletic director Dave Lawn said Tuesday he met last week with Pallas’ mother, who inquired about a possible transfer for her son to the Trinity League school.

“I think it was more fact-finding than anything,” Lawn said. “They (the family) were directed to go visit with our admissions people. I don’t know if they have. We’ll just wait to see what happens. Who knows? Nowadays, people shop themselves around. It seems like everybody’s looking for a better situation or something different.”

Lawn said Pallas is currently not enrolled at JSerra, a requirement before he would be able to file paperwork with CIF to transfer his eligibility.

Tesoro coach Steve Garrett disputed the notion his top frontcourt player was leaving after recent conversations with the Pallas family.

“He’s not transferring,” Garrett said. “I’ve talked to the family about it. There’s nothing official.”

Garrett said he had no further comment on the matter.

Pallas was second on the Titans in scoring and topped 20 points in three of his first six games. He has been included on national watch lists for the Class of 2015.

JSerra basketball coach Joedy Gardener said he has not had any conversations with Pallas or his family.

“I’ve never seen the kid play,” Gardner said. “I heard he’s a nice player. How he picked our school? I’m excited to know why. We’re an upcoming program. That probably attracts players and families to be involved with that.

“I’m actually surprised. If players come they come. We’re not out looking for players.”
