Barens, who finished second in the Trinity League tournament behind Beau Hossler, also expressed an interest in the Casey Martin-coached Oregon, and left the CIF-SS Team Championship tournament in Santa Barbara in May early, so he could catch a flight to take a recruiting trip there.
