Joe Secoda is the new baseball coach at Valencia, his alma mater. He replaces Mike Scheetz, who resigned after this past season, his 23rd as the school’s varsity head coach.
Secoda coached Tustin’s baseball team the past few years. This past season, Tustin finished 13-17. The Tillers upset Crescenta Valley in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs, then lost to eventual Division 2 finalist Aliso Niguel in the second round, 2-1.
Secoda was Fullerton’s coach before moving on to Tustin. Secoda was a three-sport star at Valencia in the 1990s. He played for several years in the St. Louis Cardinals system.
Scheetz was a terrific coach at Valencia. He always got the most out of his roster, including this year when Valencia made the Division 2 playoffs as an at-large team and in the second roundĀ beat Harvard-Westlake, at the time the No. 1-ranked team in California.
