Girls track and field: Former county vaulters struggle at U.S. Olympic Trials

June 24th, 2012, 9:51 pm · · posted by

Two former county pole vaulters did not clear opening heights in the pole vault finals of the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Former Newport Harbor vaulter Allison Stokke (the county’s all-time leading vaulter) and former Santa Margarita vaulter Megan Jamerson were among 12 vaulters that did not clear the opening height of 13-11¼.

Jennifer Suhr (2008 Silver medalist) finished first with a clearance of 15-1, the only vaulter in the competition to clear 15-feet.

Two other vaulters (Becky Holliday and Lacy Janson) qualified for the Olympic team.
