Jon Spencer, a UC Irvine graduate who has played professional soccer in the United States and Germany, has been hired to coach Servite’s varsity boys soccer team, school officials announced on Wednesday.
He replaces Mike Lussier, who left the program in the spring after guiding the Friars to the Trinity League championship and the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
“I am pleased and honored to join the Servite family,” Spencer said in a news release. “I am looking forward to forming faith-filled leaders through the medium of soccer.”
Spencer, who holds a Class “A” USSF soccer national coaching license, most recently served as the general manager and head coach for the Orange County Blue Star, a team in the USL Premier Development League. He’s also of Scouting for the United States Football Club.
“We are very excited about bringing Coach Spencer to Servite,” Servite president Pete Bowen said. “He will make an immediate impact on not only the soccer program, but our entire Servite community. We look forward to his leadership in forming our young men. We welcome him and his wife Heather to the Servite family.”
As a player in Germany, Spencer was a member of VfR Mannheim and SV Weil am Rhein. In the MLS, he played for the Kansas City Wizards.
