Former JSerra standout and Cal redshirt freshman Harrison Steed placed eighth in the finals of the high jump at the 2012 NCAA Track and Field Championships Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Erik Kynard of Kansas State successfully defended his NCAA title with a clearance of 7-8.
Steed, who set the county’s all-time record in the high jump at 7-2½ in 2010, cleared that same height in Thursday’s competition.
Steed was a four time all-county selection and was named the Register’s 2008 Track and Field Athlete of the Year after winning the CIF state title with a clearance of 7-1.
