Boyce said that “it was time to move in a new direction” for the program. He also added that the school will be looking both internally and externally to fill the position. All interested applicants should contact Boyce at 714-962-1356, ext. 4275.
When contacted, Boone expressed shock at the decision.
“There were no alarms on my end during the season,” he said.
Boone has coached the Edison program for 15 years. During that time, Boone compiled an overall record of 244-163. He led teams to the CIF-SS playoffs 11 times, two Sunset League titles (2005-06) and one CIF-SS title (2006).
Boone released a statement, here is an excerpt:
“I will continue to be a proud teacher in the Edison Social Studies Department doing what I love most. With karma on my side, I will also continue to pursue excellence in the sport of volleyball outside of Edison athletics. This opportunity will also give me a chance to enjoy more time with my wonderful family.”
” … I’d like to take an opportunity to thank my former players past and present who supported Edison volleyball. I’d especially like to thank my coaching staff for doing an excellent job.”
“It was an honor having so many of my former players return to coach the current program. You did a great job of instilling the core values of our program: responsibility, character and leadership. To the players, I hope you soon begin to understand the type of commitment that it takes be responsible members of your family, how to succeed academically and play volleyball well.”
“I have tried to instill those characteristics in all of my players and win or lose they always proved that they could succeed off the court after graduation. So I take great pride in what I have been able to do over the past 15 seasons building an excellent sports program that only few coaches in the CIF Southern Section have been able to achieve.”
“I would like to send one more message to my players. You will need to immediately impress upon the replacement head coach your worthiness to wear the Edison uniform by showing what hard workers you can be. This is a unique opportunity that will allow you a chance to rebuild Edison into a champion once again. I wish you the best of luck.”
