Softball: This game is really going down to The Wire

Northern Illinois-bound Maleena Esparza leads things off for the Highlanders in the top of the 10th. She could give La Habra the lead with a swing of the bat, but she doesn’t. She flies out to right field. One down.

Kaiser ace Krystal Gabbard with another 1-2-3 inning to retire the Highlanders. She has retired nine straight and doesn’t look tired at all.

Kaiser has its 2, 3 and 4 hitters coming up.

Jordyn Buffum leads off with an infield single.

Jesslene Contreras doubles over the right fielder. For some reason the Kaiser coach holds Buffum at third. She would have scored easily. Kaiser has runners on second and third with no outs.

Krystal Gabbard gets intentionally walked and … THE BASES ARE JUICED!!!!

Destiney Henderson with a grounder to short and La Habra’s Maleena Esparza throws out the runner at the plate. One down.

Linda Garcia lines out to third and Shanin Thomas almost doubles up the runners at third. Two down.

Crystel Cerpa smokes one down the left-field line and … it’s off the fence for a single to drive in the winning run.

Kaiser defeats La Habra, 5-4, to advance to the Division 4 finals where it will face Garden Grove, the lone OC team left in the postseason.
