
Golden West Swim Club’s Megan Rankin placed a strong second in the 400-meter freestyle on Day 1 of the Speedo Grand Challenge on Friday night.
The University senior, pictured left, dropped four seconds from prelims to touch second to Olympian Kate Ziegler with a time of 4 minutes, 13.89 seconds at the William Woollett Jr. Aqautics Center. Rankin finished just off her entry time for meet of 4:13.51.
Michaela Merlihan, a junior at CIF Division 2 champion Esperanza, dropped 1 1/2 seconds from her personal best in the 400 free to finish in 4:17.60, good for second in the consolation final.
