Los Alamitos girls lacrosse team defeated Palos Verdes, 19-9, in the finals of the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section Division 1 playoffs at Mission Viejo.
The Griffins won their fourth section title in a row.
Los Alamitos Coach Liz Connelly had most of her starters on the bench when the game started.
After the game, Connelly said the players broke team rules Friday and were forced to sit out the first half.
Connelly said that she and the Los Alamitos administration made the decision and would not elaborate what rules the players violated.
“Because of a disciplinary action, we kept them out,” Connelly said. “We all agreed to move on.”
Connelly prevented reporters from talking to the Los Alamitos players after the game. Asked why they couldn’t talk to the players, Connelly said the players should be celebrating with their teammates, adding, “because I said no.”
