Hard-hitting Beckman safety Elijah Steen (6-1, 205) committed Thursday to USC as a preferred walk-on, the senior confirmed this evening.
Steen had one offer– from UC Davis — before National Signing Day — but racked up the offers after the Feb. 1 signing date. He landed scholarship offers from UCLA, Cal, BYU, Boston College, Minnesota and Air Force.
He committed to USC while at the university for the Trojans’ practice Thursday. The news was well-received by the USC players. “They all clamped and just got a little rowdy,” Steen said.
Steen said USC’s film school played a major role in his decision.
“That’s what I want to pursue,” he said.
Steen also will pursue a scholarship at USC. He believes if he plays the way he is capable of, he will earn a scholarship.
He describes his style of play as being patient but aggressive. He believes tackling is one of his strengths.
While at Beckman, he showed the ability to speed toward the line of scrimmage and deliver stinging hits.
“I’m a downhill safety,” said Steen, who played free safety for two seasons at Beckman.
Steen also carries a 4.1 grade-point average.
Speedy San Clemente wide receiver/cornerback Christian Tober also has committed to USC as a preferred walk-on.
