One of the more interesting league races in the boys volleyball season will be the Sunset League.

Los Alamitos, Huntington Beach and Newport Harbor are the favorites to battle it out for the top three spots. All three are ranked in the county top 10.

Edison, Fountain Valley and Marina can cause problems on any night.

Play began Friday. Here is a brief recap:

No. 5 Huntington Beach 3, Fountain Valley 0: Edgar Palos and Zach Gates led the Oilers with nine kills in the 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 victory over the Barons.

No. 8 Newport Harbor 3, Edison 0: The Sailors swept the Chargers, 25-16, 25-20, 25-14.

No. 9 Los Alamitos 3, Marina 0: The Griffins swept the Vikings, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20.

Next week is a big for Los Alamitos. The Griffins will host both Huntington Beach (Tuesday) and Newport Harbor (Friday)
