For the first time in school history a Tarbut V’Torah boys soccer team will enter the CIF-SS playoffs as a league champion. But not only did they win the title, they did it without losing a game.
Dan Friedman leads both the Lions and the county with 33 goals. He scored a pair of goals in the historic 4-0 victory against Saddleback Valley Christian, a triumph that gave the Lions a 12-0-2 record and first place in the standings.
One of Freidman’s goals was unassisted, but in the closing seconds of the game, freshman Aaron Berdy found Friedman and he redirected Berdy’s pass to set the final margin.
In Thursday’s first round, the Lions will face the winner of Tuesday’s Crossroads/Yeshiva wild-card game.
Saddleback Valley Christian, the third-place team in the San Joaquin league also made it into playoffs as a wild card, and will face Lindfield Christian, an at-large selection from the Ambassador league, on Tuesday
