
A trio of Trinity League water polo teams along with Dana Hills advanced Friday to the quarterfinals of the America’s Finest City KAP 7 Women’s Invitational in San Diego.
Rosary reached the quarterfinals by rallying for a 9-8 victory against Mira Costa at Coronado Community Aquatics Center.
Seniors Savhanna McClafferty and Noelle Herrera combined for seven goals to lead the Royals, who trailed, 7-6, going into the fourth period.
Rosary plays Santiago of Corona in the quarterfinals Saturday at Brian Bent Memorial Aquatics Complex in Coronado at 10 a.m.
Santiago is ranked No. 1 in Division 2, which includes the Trinity League. The Sharks handled Irvine, 15-4, to advance.
Mater Dei defeated Torrey Pines, 16-6, to reach the quarters. Brianna Daboub scored six goals for the Monarchs while Mackenzie Barr added five.
The Monarchs play Division 4 contender Dana Hills at 8 a.m. in the first quarterfinal at the Bent complex Saturday.
Dana Hills held off M.L. King, 15-13, to reach the top-eight. Emily Carlson scored six goals while freshman Madison Baba added four for the Dolphins.
Santa Margarita cracked the top-eight with a 14-8 victory against La Jolla. Morgan Martinez paced the Eagles with four goals.
Santa Margarita plays Bonita in the 11 a.m. quarterfinal.
In another quarterfinal Saturday, Carlsbad takes on Los Osos at 9 a.m.
The final is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.
