Clay McKnight has resigned as boys basketball coach at Fairmont Prep to pursue scouting opportunities in professional basketball.
McKnight, son of longtime Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight and a former All-County Mater Dei guard, said he resigned last week, before league play began for the Huskies in the San Joaquin League. Erbie Phillips has been promoted for assistant to head coach at Fairmont.
Fairmont is 13-3 this season. McKnight’s record there in 2 1/2 seasons was 49-21.
