OC Varsity ~ High school sports talk by the staff of the Orange County Register

Fryer’s top 10 vote

January 9th, 2012, 10:48 am · · posted by

How I voted in this week’s Orange County boys basketball media poll … and there are some teams with some semi-odd losses, but that will happen during a long season …

1. Mater Dei (13-2 overall, 1-0 league) … MD lost to Gill St. Bernard of New Jersey, No. 3 team in NJ.

2. Capistrano Valley (15-2, 2-0) … beat El Toro, and looked good doing so.

3. Mission Viejo (15-1, 1-0) … maybe this should be No. 3, over Capo? MV’s only loss was to Mater Dei.

4. JSerra (10-4, 1-1) … big jump for the Lions, thanks in part to losses by other top 10 teams; JS lost to SJ Bosco last week, but that’s a very good team.

5. Orange Lutheran (12-2, 2-0) … York’s absence (appendectomy) really hurts these Lancers.

6. Ocean View (12-3, 1-0) … getting semi-overdue respect from the voters this week.

7.  Edison (14-2, 2-0) … beat Newport Harbor, lost to an 8-7 Torrance team.

8. El Toro (14-4, 0-1) … just a cold shooting night for Chargers vs. CV, but CV is a very good defensive club.

9. Foothill (14-3, 2-1) … lost to Esperanza, but feeling here is that Foothill beats Esperanza in the rematch.

10. Aliso Niguel (13-5, 2-0) … could go undefeated in Sea View League.

Considered — Canyon, Cypress, Esperanza, Tustin, Sunny Hills, La Habra, Dana Hills, Huntington Beach, Santa Margarita.
