Emerging Foothill junior Brenna Thomas believes her team received a wake-up when it was upset by Newport Harbor — without Maddy McLaren — earlier this season.
Foothill coach Jeff Colton said his squad received another wake-up call Wednesday night from El Toro. The Knights needed a goal from Nicole Stansfield with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime and a strike from Thomas in the first, three-minute extra period to post an 11-10 victory.
Colton credited El Toro for playing well, and rightfully so. Allison Skaggs is one of the top centers in the county and goalie Emily Browning can be tough when she gets hot. But Foothill clearly didn’t expect this one to be so close.
“We’re not trying to provide this much entertainment to our parents,” Colton said.
Foothill (Division 1) and El Toro (Division 2) are both teams to watch this season.
